Bird Feeders: Look Who's Coming to Dinner

"Bird Feeders: Look Who's Coming to Dinner
by: Allen Shaw

Birds, birds, birds. They come in all shapes and sizes. They range in type from carnivores to herbivores. Birds have been the stars of their own movies. Birds have taught children the importance of personality over looks. Some are even the leaders of nations. Is it any wonder that bird watching is one of the world's most practiced hobbies.

People from all walks of life enjoy bird watching. Anyone can do it. All it requires is patience, a pair of binoculars and most importantly, a bird feeder. And there are many types. Depending what birds you want to attract will determine what kind of feeder to get.

Hummingbird feeders are the most popular and come in two styles; inverted and basin style. The feeder usually has a small receptacle in which a sugar solution is placed. It has an opening just big enough for the hummingbird to put its long beak. But the solution is really just an energy boost for the hummingbird. A hummingbird's main diet is gnats and other small bugs. Here's a hint when choosing a hummingbird feeder. Choose one that can be taken apart easily. Your feeder needs to be cleaned every three-to-four days due to the unfortunate clotting habit of the sugar and water solution.

Angola World Cup 2006 National Football Team Profile

Angola World Cup 2006 National Football Team Profile
by: Pavlos Skoufis

The Angola national football team, nicknamed Palancas Negras, ("Black Impalas") is the national team of Angola and is controlled by the Federação Angolana de Futebol. On October 8, 2005, Angola qualified for the World Cup for the first time ever, when they beat Rwanda 1-0 in Kigali. The team is coached by the nation's favourite Luis Oliveira Goncalves, who had earlier successes while managing the Angola Under-20 National Team. Goncalves took over the men's team in 2003. Angola entered the World Cup Qualifiers for the first time in 1986.

Angola finished top of Group 4 in the African Qualifying Zone. Group 4 was considered one of the toughest groups and Angola finished top of the group against teams such as Nigeria and Zimbabwe. Angola actually finished with the same points as Nigeria, but automatically qualified for the World Cup 2006, as it had a better record in the head-to-head matches.

Celebrations and festivities broke out over the entire nation after the team qualified for the first time, in a magnitude only having been experienced before, during the independence celebrations 30 years ago. Every Angolan, from the youngest to the country's president, José Eduardo dos Santos, has now football in their hearts. Upon arrival in Luanda, the Angolan capital city, after their win against Rwanda, the Angolans gave a "heroes" Welcome to the team with every household celebrating.

Captain Fabrice Akwa scored some crucial goals, including the winners against Rwanda in the last game, and in the game against Nigeria. Akwa is the fans' favourite having scored 31 goals in 67 international appearances. "This is the first time we are in the finals and we want to show off our football. We also want to show there is more to Angola than just war and oil," Akwa said.

Benfica's striker Pedro Mantorras (Pedro Manuel Torres) is the most famous player outside Angola. However, Mantorras was unfortunate after suffering an injury, thus missing Angola's last crucial matches. Pedro Mantorras has setup a local housing project in Angola for the kids who live on the streets, which he funds with a fat percentage from his salary.

Back in 2002, Mantorras received a very serious injury which threatened his football career. After 2-years of painful recovery, the player once known as the new "Eusebio"came back into action in January 2006, helping Benfica win the 2004/2005 Superliga.

Angola was seeded in the third place of Group D at the Leipzig Draw. You can read the same article plus view some interesting facts and figures for the Angolan national football team on http://www.worldcuplatest.com/worldcup2006/groupD/angola/teamprofile

Why Christians Don't Give

"Why Christians Don't Give
by: Rod Rogers

I have a book of cartoons called Church Is Stranger Than Fiction with a picture of four men sitting around a conference table in a church board meeting. In the caption, the man at the head of the table says, “It looks like we’re going to have to recall our last twenty-five converts—there seems to be a defect in their giving”.1

Sadly, there is a defect in the giving of the vast majority of Christians. According to Barna Research Online, 'The proportion of households that tithe their income to their church—that is, give at least ten percent of their income to that ministry—has dropped by 62% in the past year, from 8% in 2001 to just 3% of adults during 2002.'2

Why don’t Christians give more generously? The Bible and research indicate that the primary reason is that they lack pastoral leadership. As the key spiritual leader in the church, the pastor has the most influence on a church’s giving practices. According to church stewardship expert Eugene Grimm,

'The pastor is the chief steward of the congregation. Congregations that are above the national average in their giving have one of several things in common. One of the most important of these is strong pastoral leadership. In congregations with effective stewardship, "

How to Generate the Courage and Faith to Be Lazy

ArticleCity.com - How to Generate the Courage and Faith to Be Lazy: "How to Generate the Courage and Faith to Be Lazy
by: Kerul Kassel

It's hard to imagine that this could be so, but I'm finding that I have to be ambitious about being 'lazy'. How amusing! If you're like most of my clients (and myself), you're very used to packing every day full of activities, responsibilities, 'stuff'. You may take pride and pleasure in the amount of work you're able to accomplish, the number of tasks and projects you can juggle, the sheer number of initiatives you're involved in.

There may come a time, though, when you realize that some of the most important things you'd like to accomplish require the kind of time and focus that dictates some very substantial whittling away at some of what you're involved in. And that can be tough (I know it is for me)! It may well entail letting go of what may feel about as important as what you'd like to incorporate.

For very busy people who like to achieve a lot, there's often a tendency to push ourselves hard toward our goals, to go and go and go until we're at least a bit (if not a lot) frazzled, exhausted, or frustrated. On some goals that we're working toward, we can really load ourselves up with to-do's, spending a lot of time, effort, and sometimes frustration trying to make our g"

Travel Tips For Your Vacation Rental Trip To Bulgaria

Travel Tips For Your Vacation Rental Trip To Bulgaria
by: Milan Matchev

Bulgaria offers pleasures for each one's taste. Thinking of an active holiday? Bulgaria has it - swimming, skiing, riding, climbing, hunting, fishing... Thinking of relaxing - amazing nature, sunny beaches, healing spas, monasteries and churches, hospitable towns and villages... Ancient culture, endless beaches and an emerald sea, high mountains with marvellous gorges and caves, clear lakes and rivers full of fish, wide valleys, healing springs, ancient culture, hospitable people, tempting cuisine and wines, diverse flora and fauna...

All accommodation places in Bulgaria have been categorised according to the 5-star international system. Privatisation has had a favourable impact and today the country is proud of hotels and restaurants that meet the modern world standard.

When you are ready for that once in a lifetime experience of an Bulgarian vacation, consider a private home rental for your source of lodging. Hotels can be nice, but staying in a private home rented for the occasion can give you a chance to see the real Bulgaria. Explore the countryside, walk into the village and visit with the residents, and see what it feels like to actually go home, to a cabin or villa at the end of the day, living as the Bulgarians do. Or, try a beach house if that suits you or an apartment if you prefer a more urban setting. Getting to know the local people by living among them for an extended stay of a few weeks will give you a chance to learn some of the language, or if you already speak Bulgarian to brush up on your skills. It will also give you a chance to learn local history in a very unique way, from the people themselves. You will appreciate all of the similarities of Bulgarian culture with your own, and learn to appreciate the differences as well. The Bulgarians are a wonderful, friendly people with a rich culture and history. Taking the time to live among them, getting to know them as friends and neighbors, is truly an experience you will always remember.

Private homes for rent to vacationers in Bulgaria can be found in various price ranges. If you are looking for luxury, there are villas available. If something more rustic suits your taste and budget, then smaller homes and even old farmhouses are available to appeal to all tastes. Just as an example, one property includes two bedrooms, queen size beds, kitchen, laundry area, bathroom, central eat and the satellite television, telephone and VCR that most tourists are used to having. Imagine though the coziness and comfort of coming back to the house after a day of sight seeing to sit by the fire place, drinking a glass of a local wine, having a light dinner of pasta, and enjoying the peace and quiet of your surroundings. Staying in a hotel in a major city will certainly show you the tourist hot spots, but staying in a private home will show you the real Bulgaria.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in Bulgaria like:

- Nessebar - beautiful small town on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast a few hours south of Varna. Another one of Bulgaria's many UNESCO world heritage sites.

- Sozopol - together with Nessebar these are the two sea towns with traditional houses and ancient dig sites.

- Bansko - a beautiful old village in the Pirin mountains with refurbished homes, stone wall, and cobblestone streets, but increasingly overtaken by resort hotels. Good place for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. The birthplace of the Bulgarian revival movement. If you want a true mountain village experience, there are a few other villages nearby from which to choose. In the beginning of august an annual Jazz festival is being held in the town. Skiiers and Snowboarders could find BanskoSki useful.

No visa is required for entry for citizens of the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

However, foreigners have to register at the police after 72 hours. If you have booked with a travel agency, this will be taken care of. If not - usually, your hotel will handle the necessary paperwork (ask). If you do not stay in a hotel, you will need to go to the police and take the tedious task of registering on your own. Especially for UK and US citizens, Bulgaria is really cracking down on this. Failure to register might mean a 2000 Leva fine (about $1200 US). Also take care that you have an entry stamp in your passport, otherwise your exit could be quite troublesome.

Bulgaria offers tourist attractions all around the year. Most popular are summer seaside resorts, along the entire Black Sea coastline. In winter numerous ski resorts are there to attract tourists. There are many spa, trekking and historical destinations that offer incredibly rich variety of experiences.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands of mineral water springs around the country, so this is something you'd better taste and drink. Ayrian and boza are two traditional Balkan non-alcoholic beverages.

Do You Really Own Your Web Site? Maybe Not

Do You Really Own Your Web Site? Maybe Not
by: David West

Here are some important tips for you to remember and some questions to ask your web site design or development company. If you don't understand the 'ownership' issues when you are buying a web site design or web based application, this is must read material for you! Don't get caught paying twice.

I recently interviewed a new client who was looking to add the functionality of a database to their existing web site. Their current webmaster had completed a business logo and designed the initial interface for the site. The clients asked their webmaster for a quote to add the functionality to the site and he returned a price that far exceeded the clients’ budget.

Long story made short, we found a great application that already exists that would meet the clients’ needs for substantially less than custom development. The client advised the previous webmaster that they were moving services. Do you think they got to keep their original web site? Nope. We had to start over again, which unfortunately meant that this customer had to pay for extra design time that they had effectively already paid for.

Here are some important tips for you to remember and some questions to ask your web site design or development company.

Web Design Source Code

When you hire a web designer or a developer they are going to produce a web site or web based application that your business is going to be dependant on. In fact, a web application may be your whole business. This is absolutely the case where a business is 100% online and depends on the process built into their web site. E-commerce stores are a perfect example of a whole business online.

Web designers create web pages with a compilation of images and hyper-text markup language (HTML). The HTML is a text based standard language that most every web designer in the world knows. The HTML is what is used to hold the structure of your web site together. It keeps the pretty pictures and text all in the right places. Your web browser interprets that HTML and shows you the web site images and text.

Your web designer will start your design by “drawing” your web site in a graphics program. Macromedia Fireworks and Photoshop are two tools that are very often used by professionals. Your designer will draw the site using shapes, colors, images and fonts that are all piled up in layers to create the final “look and feel” for your new web site design. The designers will then slice up the images and use the resulting smaller images to build your working website using HTML to hold it all together.

Here is the key. You need the original art file that was used to design your web site in Macromedia Fireworks or Photoshop or whatever software your designer uses. If you don’t get the source file, your next web designer will have to start your design from scratch if you want artwork changes. This is no walk in the park if the original images that were used are not available. Macromedia Fireworks source files have the extension .PNG (yourWebsite.PNG). Photoshop files have the extension .PSD (yourWebsite.PSD).

Another design issue that you may run into in the future is fonts. If your designer uses fancy fonts that are not installed by default on your computer or your future designers computer, you will have to substitute different fonts. In some cases, choosing a new font is not a big issue. However, if you could image that the font used in the logo for Coca-Cola® became unavailable because Coke® changed designers it would most likely cause them real damage. They need the font used in their logo or corporate branding and so do you!

Questions to ask your web designer

1) When you are finished designing my web site will you provide me with the source files used in the design of my new web site?

2) Will you transfer the ownership (copyright) of these source files to me or my company? Or at least give me perpetual license to continue using them and to make revisions?

3) Will you provide me with the names and files for all non-windows fonts used in the design of my new web site? At the very least, because there may be real copyright issues with transferring the fonts, you need to know the names of the fonts and where you can buy copies of them for your project archive.

Web Application Source Code

Web developers create programs that work as applications on the internet. They create code that is compiled, usually in real-time, at the web server. The code will, for example, connect to a database and extract a set of data. The data will then be compiled into an HTML table (so that it is readable) and then sent from the web server to your web browser as pure HTML. You will not be able to “view source” and read the scripting language because it never leaves the web server. If you “view source” from the web browser, you will only see the HTML.

Some of the code that your developer writes will be protected by copyright. Your developer may also buy code in the form of server components, use code blocks for functionality from other programmers or purchase complete application in order to finish your program. You need to ensure that the developer tells you that you can continue to use the software that they develop for your business for an unlimited period of time, and that if there are any licensing restrictions or reoccurring licensing costs that they are disclosed to you before you start the project. Find out if you will be bound forever to a hosting or server plan for you application.

Here are some questions you may want to ask your web developer

1) Will you transfer an unlimited a perpetual license to me or my company to use the application that you develop for me?

2) Will you disclose any licensing restrictions to me regarding the application?

3) Will you write code using common standards or languages that I will be able to move to another hosting provider or eventually to my own server?

4) Can I move my application to another server in the future if it is necessary?

Use of Encryption

So your web developer says “yes” to the last four questions and you think, “great, I’m home free, let’s get started”. Then two years later you decide it’s time to move your web application to your own servers because your e-commerce store is screaming busy and the cost of bandwidth and hosting is killing your profits.

You start the process to move your application to your new server and call up your webmaster for help, but he has gone to University in the states and “isn’t doing that anymore”. You think to yourself, “I guess I should have used a more established company…” So you find a new webmaster. Incidentally, I am often told by new clients that I am their second, third and sometimes even fourth web developer. So we go to move the web site, but wait, something is wrong… portions of the source code are encrypted. Even the government couldn’t decrypt it. We have to rewrite those blocks of code and the client has to pay… again.

If your web sites source HTML or application scripting language is encrypted then it may have to be rewritten or you will have no way to add functionality, or to fix bugs, without involving the original developer who holds the key to the encryption. They are quite clever, aren’t they?

There are some good reasons to encrypt some portions of the source code, even on in a web application. Most web applications will contain, in the source code, the database, username and password within one of the files. This is a great example of a code block that should be encrypted before it is placed into a shared hosting environment.

If your web developer is going to encrypt portions of the source code, make sure you get a copy of the unencrypted source code for your project archive. In this manner you will be able to work with a new developer.

Questions to ask your web developer regarding encryption

1) Will you be encrypting any or all of the source code in the application you are developing for me?

2) Will you provide me with a copy of the original source code prior to being encrypted?

Technologies

There are a number of technologies used in the development of web sites and web applications they include Pre-Hypertext Processor (PHP), Active Server Pages (ASP), Active Sever Pages dot Net (ASP.NET), and Cold Fusion to name a few. All of these scripting languages facilitate connecting web sites to databases and accessing functionality on the web server such as sending mail or uploading files. All of these technologies are widely used, widely available and there is a great number of developers that know these languages. There are some lesser known programming and scripting languages that may be able to do a lot of the same things as the more widely used languages. The pitfall is that you may have a more difficult time finding a programmer that knows the language.

Some web scripting or programming languages like Microsoft’s® Active Server Page or Active Server Page dot Net technologies are developed specifically for use on the Mircrosoft operating systems. These technologies are difficult, if not impossible, to run on a Linux operating system. When your programmer selects a language to develop your web application with, he may be marrying you to a long term relationship with a particular operating systems and software vendor. This is okay as long as you recognize the long term ramifications of these choices, some of which may be greater costs to you in the future.

Questions to ask your web developer regarding programming languages

1) Is the technology you use tied to one particular operating system or can I host my web site on my choice of servers with my choice of operating system? More specifically, can I host my application on a Microsoft web server and a Linux server?

Transferability

Make sure that you are able to move your web site to a server with comparable standards in the future should you wish to do so. Moving a web site to a new server is not necessarily due to a break down in the relationship with your web designer. You may be forced to move if your existing server can no longer handle your traffic bandwidth. If your costs become too high in a shared hosting environment you may find it more economical to setup your own web server and host your own application.

If you do choose to host your own application this is where the cost ramifications of your earlier choices will hit your pocket book. For example if your site was developed using PHP, an open-source scripting language for websites, then the cost of your new server will likely not include any software licensing because the operating system (Linux) is free. If on the other hand your site is developed using .ASP or .ASP.NET, you are going to have to buy expensive server licenses from the big guy.

Can You Use Your Site Into the Future?

If you commission a web designer or developer to complete a project for you make sure that you have an agreement in place that clearly specifies that you can continue to use the project and the related source files when it is completed. Check the service agreement that you have signed with your web company. Of course if there is no documentation then you will not know if you own you web site or web-based application.

In Summary

There are some good reasons for web designers and developers to protect their rights and to ensure their future earning potential. As the client or purchaser of web design services you need to understand where you stand with regard to choices that will be made on your behalf regarding your web site or web based application.

Get Yourself Reliable Web Hosting Service

Get Yourself Reliable Web Hosting Service
by: Ainuddin Mohamad

Unsatisfied with free web hosting services provided by Geocities, Angelfire, and Fortune City? Easily forgotten long domain name full of dashes and slashes which will fail the Radio Test, Pop-ups, banners making your life miserable! You start looking for a real professional hosting service for your beloved website. You start searching over the Net. Suddenly the possibilities are immense! $20 a month and 20MB space. Fantastic, isn’t it?

Is it?? Read on. Way back, when I was a real novice, when I was amongst that typical “The Internet is so wonderful” optimist, I signed up with a paid web hosting service provider. I thought I found the perfect solution. I was provided a chunk of webspace, a web address and content for my site. But before I could even realize what’s going on, I found out that the space was a useless chunk which won’t work properly, the address wouldn’t connect, the contents warped and too much downtime.

Wiser I grew as an year passed, I labored my way up to get a working website, having a helpful lovely support team. I knew what I wanted for my website. How did I achieve it? I had the advantage having a lot of wonderful friends who are working for several web hosting companis. But what about you? You see a world of opportunity waiting to be tapped and just dive-in into the vicious circle of money loss and disappointment!

I don’t seek to be the angel of all odds, but I thought some useful tips and hints on how to get started in the web might help the ignorant and also save you from the misfortune. So what is it? I don’t want to repeat the “Know what you want” statement because that’s too clichéd and not that simple to handle when it comes to the real thing. Sure you have a vague idea of what you want but what about the fine prints in all that, the “mumbo jumbo”, so to speak?

I don’t think you do! So relax, sit back and before you go jumping off to the last line, just read a bit.

MB of Space

What’s an MB? MB stands for MegaByte. Basically this is the storage place allotted to you. Before buying the space, spend a little time in thinking about your website’s requirements. Calculate approximately how much you require and then add another 50. Excess space will help you to add and alter and expand in the future. Always better to have too much in the bag than too little, isn’t it? Remember audio and video files need a lot of space.

Pricing (Monthly/Yearly)

The payment options are either monthly or yearly. Believe me it is wiser “test the water” first by starting with the monthly plan. Don’t be tempted by all the marketing talks about discounted rates for longer period of time and pay for the year (or more) at one go!

Domain Name Registration

What’s a Domain Name? It’s basically the www.yourdomainname.com. This Domain name has to be registered so that no one else can use it. Most web hosts would provide domain registration as a package. If you already own a domain name then you surely have to transfer to the new host. Ensure that the host provides this service. Also ask for directions on how to do it yourself. If you don’t have a name already, then ponder for a moment and think how many names you would need. Will one be enough? No extra names to be attached to sub-domains? Do you need redirects?

While selecting the suitable domain name for your website, make sure that it is relevant to what your site would feature. It should not be that you talk about “woodworking” while your website name is “cool-curtains.com”. That’s very embarrassing!!

Email Accounts

There are quite a few options here.

Mail Servers: You think you would be getting substantial amount of mail through your website, then opt for a mail server. It is basically an actual online site, like mail.yoursitename.com, where you have your personal mail box. An email address like info@yourdomainname.com would be more professional unlike those free email addresses like John6578@hotmail.com

Mailing Lists: Do you want to promote your site through newsletters, promotional informations, sending emails to lot of people, then you might look for this mailing list option. However, lists are not always a “must-have” service option for the hosting company.

Mail Catch all: This service executes what the name suggests. It collects emails which have wrongly typed names (typo), wrong names etc but have your domain written properly in the email ID, like typo@yourdomain.com

Mail Redirects: If you want the emails, to be redirected from your name@yourdomain.com email ID to another mail box e.g. to your hotmail account, then avail off this service.

There are many other options you might choose for your page. Like having multimedia, Front Page Support, Access/Database support, cgi bin, custom 404 error pages, search engine submissions etc. Think and make a list of your website’s requirements.

But before you initiate anything, send an email to the support team of the web hosting service provider, asking them whether they provide the services you require. Try to be polite and friendly and point to your specific requirements. Assess their feedback and response time, whether they are prompt or slow. This would give you a good indication of what kind of support you would get in the future.

Basically, the crux of the matter is that you think before you spend. Countless victims are there to tell their tale of woes and frustrations. I’m one of the one but I had grown wiser. Don’t be fooled by sweet talking marketing guys whop would spare no efforts to promise you everything. Are you sure they can deliver?

ArticleCity.com - Common Reasons People Go Into Foreclosure

Common Reasons People Go Into Foreclosure
by: Lucy Landley

If a family loses their home in Foreclosure, it is easy to critically speculate and assume that they must have been irresponsible with the loan payments or they bought a home way out of their league. Despite the fact that those are possible reasons for foreclosure, truth be told that there are many other reasons people foreclose on a home and many times it is out of their control. For any reason that a person or family forecloses on a home, there is always hope and someone to help. This is why it is necessary for knowledgeable and equipped investors to be on their toes, ready to help those in pre-foreclosure or those who already are in foreclosure. Those who have defaulted on a loan could have suffered from any of many life changing events, such as the following:

Divorce. Divorce is a life changing issue and a split in a household can cause people to lose their home in foreclosure. A frequently used statistic today is that one in about every two marriages end in a divorce, and sadly it’s true. Divorce is undeniably a reality of our society today. Depending on who keeps the house is the determining factor of who will take over the monthly dues of the house. Unless arrangements are made in a prenuptial agreement, it is not a given who becomes the home proprietor and the legal process of a divorce takes time. The cost of a divorce itself can be the main cause of losing a home in foreclosure. Poor communication in a divorce is a factor which leads to unintended negligence and defaulted payments as well. Naturally, there are many different divorce scenarios that lead to home foreclosure.

Medical Reasons. Unexpected illnesses lead to a surplus of uninvited bills and many people can’t afford these expenses or do not have the insurance coverage to save them. Nobody plans to foreclose on their home, just like they do not expect to pay thousands of dollars in hospital bills. Ideally saving money out of each paycheck to cover potential medical expenses would be great, but that is not always an option. Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck, barely making the home loan payment. When a medical emergency happens within a family, the monthly mortgage payment is put on the back burner. Reason being that an illness can cause emotional stress, or disable someone from working (which leads to the next topic…)

Job Loss. Job loss is a frequent cause of home foreclosure. The economy strengthens and weakens, and in conjunction with that the workforce moves up and down in numbers. As the unemployment rate goes up in a city it is safe to assume that foreclosure numbers will raise as well. Again, ideally one might hope to have saved enough money over the years to cover the home loan, credit card bills, electricity, etc in the case of job loss. However, this is not a social reality. The many Americans who have suffered job loss cannot pay monthly dues and they result with a default home loan, fall in to debt, and in many cases are foreclosed on by their mortgage lender.

Death. Death is single handedly the most detrimental happening for a person or family. Death can, in many ways, cause a family to lose everything…including their home to foreclosure. Take for instance, if the sole provider of the mortgage payments has died, then it is very likely that the rest of that family will lose their home in foreclosure. Unfortunately, the other spouse may be disabled or unable to work and sadly that person is in a seemingly out of control situation. This is where a qualified investor specializing in foreclosure will step in and help him/her get control again.

The reason a person or family goes into foreclosure is important for all to understand. As a homeowner one can be prepared for such a situation as the aforementioned, and as an investor, one can be informed as to what causes foreclosure and how to be of service. Death, job loss, medical expenses, and divorce are a few of the most common reasons people foreclose on a home. These factors are real and an everyday part of society.

It is important to consider two things before you start cutting. These are buying the right Chinese cleaver, and holding it with a proper grip. These two things can have a significant impact on the effectiveness of your cutting skills, so it’s recommended that you read more about these in the follow two sections.

Buying the Right Cleaver

In choosing the right Chinese cleaver, it’s important to decide what you are going to cut. Will it be a thick meat or some meat with bones? If so, it’s important that you use only use a heavy weight cleaver – a light or medium weight cleaver simply will not cut through thick objects without significant damage to the knife. On the other hand, if you only need a cleaver to do some light cutting – slicing, dicing, or peeling – a light weight cleaver is ideal due to its light weight size. Of course, the medium weight cleaver is the most popular cleaver; combining the ability for light cutting with the power of the heavy cleavers, the medium weight cleaver offers the best of both worlds. Thus, for people learning how to cook, the medium weight cleaver is the best choice for them to buy.

Whatever cleaver you choose, it’s important to get a cleaver that is made from high-carbon stainless steel. There is absolutely no alternative to a quality cleaver made from high-carbon stainless steel. These cleavers provide a comfortable feel, nice weight distribution, and are easy to clean and sharpen.

Other, inexpensive, cleavers are made from traditional carbon steel or, simply low quality stainless steel. These cleavers, however, have huge drawbacks: carbon steel cleavers are easy to sharpen but will rust and discolor acidic foods. As you can imagine, there is nothing worse than seeing rust and discoloration on your meals – simply put, it’s disgusting. On the other hand, stainless steels cleavers are opposed to rust, but are extremely hard to sharpen. Again, it’s very difficult to make your meals properly with a dulled blade. High-carbon stainless steel cleavers eliminate BOTH of these problems and are clean, rust proof, and easy to sharpen. Everyone who regularly cooks will tell you the same thing; high-carbon stainless steel cleavers are the perfect cleavers. So remember – there is NO substitute for a good Chinese cleaver!

How to Grip a Cleaver

Now that you’ve got your Chinese cleaver, it’s important to learn how to hold it. This is a key idea as an improper grip can lead to accidents (both painful and not) and can also cause your hand to begin hurting due to stress. Thus, the idea is to use the cleaver in a way that feels comfortable, but also gives you as much power as possible. As such, there is only grip that chefs around the world suggest as the “proper” grip.

With your writing hand, hold the cleaver by its handle. Then, move the hand all the way up the cleaver’s handle. Move your thumb onto one side of the cleaver’s blade near the thickest part of the cleaver. Move your index finger to the side opposite of your thumb. With your other three fingers, grip the top part of the cleaver’s handle. Thus, only three fingers of your hand should be holding the handle, with the other two fingers on the actual cleaver blade body itself. While it may seem a little uncomfortable at first, it’s important that you practice using this grip as it allows the highest amount of control, but doesn’t end up tiring your arm.

It should be part of your daily diet as it helps with increasing ways of creating a clean digestive system. The process of making yogurt must have developed somewhere in Asia or Europe as there is a huge supply of milk.

In Europe and Asia, cow’s milk is very prevalent; buffalo’s milk is also used in India. In Russia goats and sheep’s milk are a good source of providing milk from which the rich and smooth yogurt is formed. Yogurt can be made by the use of Soya which is considered as a very healthy drink.

Defining Abstract Art

Defining Abstract Art
by: Lynne Taetzsch

The term “abstract art” is like the term “modern music” in the sense that it is a very broad umbrella sheltering a wide variety of art. But like “abstract math,” the general sense of the term is that it is the opposite of the concrete, or “realism.” At one end of the continuum is a painting of a violin so perfectly rendered that we feel we could reach into the frame, pick up the instrument, and play it. At the other end is a canvas painted pure white or black all over. There is nothing in it to reach in and touch.

A simple, common definition of “abstract art” is “not realistic.” Yet many artists who call their work abstract, actually do have a subject in mind when they paint. They take a figure or landscape and simplify it, exaggerate it, or stylize it in some way. They are not trying to imitate nature, but to use nature as a starting off point. Color, line, and form are more important to them than the details of the actual subject matter. They want to give a sense or feel for the subject rather than an exact replication.

Historically, the term “abstract” has been associated with a variety of art movements. The cubism of Picasso, Braque and Cezanne was a geometrical abstraction. In the United States, a group also known as the New York school of action painters was defined by critics as “abstract expressionists.” Yet the individuals in this group varied greatly in their approaches. Jackson Pollock did overall drip paintings. Mark Rothko painted shimmering color field canvases based on a simple square pattern. Willem de Kooning did not abandon subject matter like the others, but abstracted the female figure in much of his work.

Art that has no intentional beginnings in any subject matter is sometimes referred to as “non-objective,” or “non-representational.” A related term is “minimalism,” or the tendency to take as much away from the painterly surface of the canvas as possible. A white square painted on a white background is an example of minimalism. The end result is not so much the point as the daring it took to get there.

“Modern art” is another term commonly used to refer to abstract art, though originally this term was used to differentiate the experimenters of the twentieth century from the traditional European painters and sculptors. Thus, “modern art” began over seventy years ago, and is no longer new. Many movements in art have come and gone since then. For example, “pop art” incorporates popular culture such as comics and movie stars. Well-known artists of this genre include Andy Warhol, who painted Cambell’s soup cans and portraits of Marilyn Monroe; and Jasper Johns, who did a series of flag paintings.

“Contemporary art” is another one of those terms that covers a wide variety of art. The best definition of “contemporary” is the work of any living artist, though the term has also been used to mean art that you would hang in a contemporary home. This sense of contemporary is more like the term “modern,” in that it means the opposite of “traditional.” Thus, “contemporary art” is also sometimes used to mean “abstract art.”

Another way to define the term “abstract art” is to enter it as a search term on Google or Yahoo and look at the results. There will be millions of them, proving that the term is used today to cover a vast amount of art. I use the term “abstract art” to define my own painting because I know that people who love my art tend to define it this way. They often find me by entering the term on Google. Others use the term “modern art” or “contemporary art” to find me.

So where does that leave us in our definition of abstract art? Like most definitions of art movements, the answer is complex. We can look at it historically from an art critic’s perspective, or use it as the general public would, to mean something other than traditional realistic representation.

Simple Home Improvement Idea: Vinyl Siding

Simple Home Improvement Idea: Vinyl Siding
by: Michael Clem

If you've been looking for an easy way to completely transform the exterior of your home, look no further than vinyl siding. Vinyl Siding is an excellent way to spruce up your home's exterior, and this easy home improvement can dramatically increase the value of your home. There are many advantages to installing vinyl siding including saving you money and giving you a look you can be proud of for years to come.

Vinyl Siding is virtually maintenance-free due to its resilient nature. You don't even have to paint it -- a task most home owners dread! Vinyl siding sustains less environmental damage than wood or other siding alternatives, and it maintains a fresh look for years with very little cleaning.

If vinyl siding is installed properly with good insulation, it can mean lower heating bills in the following years. It is estimated that vinyl siding could save a homeowner hundreds of dollars in heating bills over the life of the product. Some manufacturers even guarantee savings up to 20 percent, which is an impressive reduction indeed.

Leaky walls can be a nightmare and can cause damage to your interior woodwork, possibly cause a health risk to your family in the form of growing mold and give your home a mildewy smell. Vinyl siding waterproofs the home and saves you the hassle of having to worry about water damage and checking for leaks.

Paint fades over time, leaving you no other option but to repaint often. But vinyl siding is fade resistant, requiring less maintenance on your part and an overall better look for your home. Vinyl siding also will not rot, peel, dent, or show scratches which means that you can enjoy a bright, clean-looking exterior every day for years. If it does get a bit dirty, you can power wash it with soap and water, a very easy and inexpensive process when compared to special treatments required for some other exteriors.

There are a huge variety of styles and colors to choose from in vinyl siding. Some sidings are bold and modern; others can make your home look authentically original with heritage designs that emulate old-style wood paneling. Siding also comes in as wide a range of colors as you can imagine, which means that you can give your home a totally new distinctive look, or simply restore some of its old charm.

Installing vinyl siding is a home improvement project that can really add value to your home. Because buyers need not worry about maintenance, cracking stucco, rotting wood, or any of the other hassles that come with alternative products, they are more likely to buy a home with vinyl siding. Many buyers specify that they want a home with vinyl siding when they are house-hunting, so installing vinyl siding can also give you an edge in the market.

Not only does vinyl siding bring with it all these benefits, but many manufacturers of vinyl siding will also offer a lifetime warranty on their product. Vinyl siding is so durable and easy to maintain, and manufacturers so sure of their product, that they offer replacements for any defects over the lifetime of the siding. This is an impressive commitment that shows the level of quality and performance you can expect from your vinyl siding.

When it comes to home improvement, vinyl siding is a great way to revamp old, tired exteriors without having to replace them board-by-board. It gives you a clean finish that works well with any style of home, whether modern or classic. You can save money, time and hassle over a lifetime with this simple switch. So put it on your home improvement to-do list, and enjoy the style and comfort that a home with vinyl siding provides.

3 Keys To Keeping Your Company Out Of Court

3 Keys To Keeping Your Company Out Of Court
by: Eli M. Kantor

Recently, there has been a huge upsurge in the number of sexual harassment lawsuits. It started with Anita Hill’s televised testimony at the Clarence Thomas Senate Confirmation hearing to become a Supreme Court Justice in 1991. Then Paula Jones’ lawsuit against President Bill Clinton and several multi-million dollar verdicts have caused a wave of litigation. In 1998, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down two important decisions that put the ball in the employer’s court in sexual harassment lawsuits. Basically, they gave employers what we call an “affirmative defense,” provided that they have a policy in place that makes it clear the company does not tolerate sexual harassment. This article will briefly summarize 3 keys to keeping your company out of court.

• KEY #1 - Have A Written Sexual Harassment Policy

All employers should have a written sexual harassment policy, which at a minimum provides: What sexual harassment is; sets forth a mechanism for reporting it; states that all complaints will be promptly and thoroughly investigated, and that if a violation is found, that prompt and effective remedial action will be taken.

• KEY #2 - Communicate the Policy

It does no good to merely have a sexual harassment policy that is sitting gathering dust in the Human Resources department or in an employee handbook, the policy must be communicated to all of the employees. It should be distributed to employees at the time of hire, explained to them, and have them sign acknowledging receipt and agreeing to abide by it. It should be posted on the wall and where appropriate, translated into Spanish. It should be discussed at meetings. Most important, it should be enforced and taken seriously whenever a complaint is made, so that employees will feel comfortable using it.

• KEY #3 – Provide Training For Your Seminars

Under a new law, AB 1825, California now requires all employees with 50 or more employees to provide a minimum of two (2) hours of sexual harassment prevention training to their supervisors.

While it is not required for employers with less than fifty (50) employees, it still is an excellent idea, since it improves employee morale by preventing problems in the first place; teaches supervisors how to nip the problems in the bud; and if an employer is ever sued, the first question that they will be asked is: “What have you done to train your supervisors about sexual harassment prevention?” The employer can respond by providing the attendance sign-in sheet from the training seminar.

I provide training to bring employers into compliance with the new law, and to protect them from costly lawsuits. First, I check their existing policy to make sure that it is adequate, or I draft a policy for them if they don’t have one. Then I go out and meet with the managers on site. I define sexual harassment for them, and go through some hypothetical scenarios with them, so they understand what is and is not acceptable behavior in the workplace. Then I go over their policy with them, have them sign off that they have read it, understand it, and will be bound by it. I tell them that if they violate the policy, it may cost them their jobs.

I provide additional tips on preventing sexual harassment at my website: www.sexualharassmentprevention.net/sexual.jsp.

ArticleCity.com - Cost Effectiveness of IT Outsourcing

Cost Effectiveness of IT Outsourcing
by: Shane Gibby

Small businesses have been contracting computer consultants to fix their computers for many years. Usually this is because they have a small number of computers and hiring someone full time to maintain these small networks is not economical or efficient.

This article will focus on the three main benefits that companies experience when they choose to outsource their computer services through a third party. They may even employ or have employed their own IT staff in the past.

#1 Save Money & Time. Computer consultants are very cost effective, efficient and time saving, especially if you contract them on a retainer basis. A retainer is a prepaid service fee, usually paid monthly. This retainer service contract puts the consulting firm “on call” and no matter when, what, or how long it takes the firm to solve the problem they are legally and ethically bound to fix it so long as the services rendered are in the boundaries of the service contract. The more time the consultant spends the less per hour they make, intrinsically motivating them to be efficient. If your network is down and you are losing money by the minute, you will feel comforted to see this computer consultant firm onsite fixing the problem.

#2 Increased Company Performance. When hiring a computer consulting firm you are getting the combined experience of the whole firm plus all of their partners and resources. Even if your company has a full time IT person or two they may not have all the expertise needed to create the dependable robust IT solution needed to solve your problems. A consulting firm will complete the project with a more reliable and robust solution because their combined ability is greater. A more robust and reliable IT solution will boost your performance as a company.

#3 Professional Courtesy. A computer consulting firm is a different company than yours. Like you they are motivated to keep their clientele and expand their market share. Their reputation is the most important advertising tool they have. They compete against other IT firms, usually generating referrals to gain market share, a better reputation is worth its weight in gold. Thus they are naturally motivated to provide superior overall service to you.

In conclusion, outsourcing your IT can save your company money due to less down time, increase your company’s performance due to more reliable and robust IT solutions, and give you superior overall service because they compete for your business.

ArticleCity.com - Car Donation Benefits

Car Donation Benefits
by: Timothy Rea

Why are car donations a good idea? As a car owner, there comes a point when you realize that your automobile is on its last legs. Assuming you have the next automobile in your sights and/or possession, what can you do with your clunker? If it's a heap and needs extensive work, there's no point in giving your wallet a beating. Why pay a thousand dollars in repairs if the car is only worth a few hundred? Who is to say it won't break down again shortly thereafter, costing you even more? If the motor runs and the wheels aren't rolling off, a lucky younger relative in need of a handout could take it as a present. Or you could spend money advertising it for sale, yet receive a pittance. Making a car donation is a smart option.

Whether a convertible, a bus, a pickup or a junker, a non-profit charity will gladly take your vehicle. It does not even have to be a running vehicle to donate it. It is a tax write off and you're able to claim more for making a contribution than what you would get selling it. The assistance you give to the charity of your choice by making a car donation gives a feeling of satisfaction.

Making a gift of a car donation is simple. The hardest part is figuring out which deserving charity gets your help, and that's not a bad task at all. You can choose from large national organization that you are familiar with such as the United Way, American Lung Association, The Red Cross, The Boy Scouts or the Salvation Army. Or you can choose something local that will aid your community exclusively. Church groups, schools and local hospitals are all places to check.

Most places will come to you for a pickup within all 50 U.S. States. The company will come with a tow truck to where your vehicle is at your convenience. It can be towed anytime during the week that you have time, usually within the week and some organizations can do rush pickup within a day or two. You do not have to pay anything for them to come and take it. If your vehicle is worth less than $500 they'll give you a receipt quickly. If it is worth more, it will take longer to get your receipt. Once you have the receipt detailing your gift of a car donation, hold it until tax time to be itemized. You most likely have a general idea of what your automobile is worth. Kelley Blue Book will also aid you in assessing the value of your gift.

Depending on the organization, up to 100% of all money made from your car donation will go to that charity. How many times have you given a handout to a bell-ringer or put a contribution into a jar and felt a little guilty? Have you wished it could be more? There may never be the "perfect time" to pull out $500 or more to give to a charity organization you believe in. Donating your automobile gives you that perfect time and the relief of not having to do anything more than make a call.

More proof the government is here to help..

So congress has created a set of regulations, that are preventing many life-saving/life-improving medicines from ever making it to market. I'm so utterly surprised... (not)

"As many as 1 out of 3 people who have died from disease in the last 40 years did so needlessly because of a single law passed by Congress in 1962! Here’s my "insider" story."

"The result was predictable: the time it took to take a drug from the laboratory to the market went from 4½ years to 14½ years. Because patent life was 19 years or less, manufacturers had insufficient time to recover their costs before a drug went generic."
